FAQ

How corrosion happens in fuel tank from E20 fuel when parked bike for long time?

Ethanol is hydroscopic, meaning it actively absorbs water vapor from the air inside the tank. When a bike is parked for a long time, temperature swings cause the tank to “breathe” in humid air. Once the ethanol absorbs a critical amount of water (around 0.5% by volume), it can no longer stay dissolved in the petrol. The ethanol and water bond together and separate from the petrol, sinking directly to the bottom of the tank because the water-ethanol mixture is denser than petrol.

How long can I safely leave E20 fuel in my parked bike?
A: Up to 3 to 4 weeks. Beyond a month, E20 fuel begins absorbing atmospheric moisture. This triggers phase separation and increases the risk of tank rust.
What are the early symptoms of E20 fuel degradation in a bike?
A: Watch out for starting trouble, a jerking engine, or erratic idling. These happen because the engine draws the water-ethanol mix from the bottom of the tank instead of pure petrol.
Can a fuel stabilizer completely prevent E20 phase separation?
A: Yes, temporarily. High-quality ethanol stabilizers chemically delay phase separation for up to 6 months. However, they cannot fix fuel that has already split into layers.
